The Wayfarer's Creed

I really like the concept behind tonight’s Democratic debate at the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.  Essentially CNN and YouTube have introduced a town hall style debate using the YouTube platform of user generated videos.  Because of the international use of their site, questions were fielded from across the world.  While I think that this is not as big of a deal as has been made out to be by some, it is a good step towards the big deal that I would like to see.  With the submission of over 3000 questions, CNN had many unique and personal questions that they could present to the Democrats present.  This added a nice touch to it.  I am disappointed, however, that it was in fact CNN that made the final decision on what questions would be asked.  How is this really any different than the previous debates though?  This format has so much potential and yet they gutted it.  Why not have even more public input into the debates.  Get the media’s hands out of the debate completely. Let the users of YouTube and the population at large decide the agenda.  With CNN still controlling the questions, they have the power to decide what is supposedly important enough to be answered by the candidates.  Instead let us have the People decide for once what is important to them instead of having them be told what is important.  We can think for ourselves, just let us.  It’ll be interesting to see if they decide to change things up at all for the Republican version in September.
